M 4.6 Radon
First, I would put together a planning committee for the campaign with health professionals and community members who have similar interest and goals. Next, I would appoint a campaign manager and choose a campaign staff i.e. (accounting, public relations, researchers, etc etc). We as a team would need to come up with a mission statement, goals, and objectives. The main goal being reducing mortality rates, but one of the objectives would be to ban tobacco companies from using radon. Our campaign mission statement would clearly state our views against smoking period. Organizations I’d love to collaborate with would be the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American Lung Association, TRUTH, and local health and human services departments. Collaborating with these stake holders could get the campaign critical exposure needed and funding. Creating a slogan is key. Maybe something like, “You wouldn’t try to smoke an atomic bomb (funny commercial). The advertisement strategy would be focused on groups with higher risks. The campaign would target specific demographics whose reduction of exposure would reduce the overall mortality rates i.e. (Alaskan/Indians, African Americans, age group 16-25 & 25-44, Low income, Low education level). Choosing the best way to the disseminate data to our audience is key. Being in an age where information is spread via social media, the best way to reach the target population is via platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Though constant feedback and performance evaluation is necessary during the campaign, a final review will be necessary after it is over. Our collaboration with major public health entities will provide critical information during this final campaign evaluation. Feedback from current smokers, stakeholders, questionnaires, and surveys will highlight our best practices and gives us tips on process improvements for future campaigns.
I really like how you thought about the steps to make this campaign as successful as possible. I feel we all can attest to the power of social media for our generation when it comes to getting the message across or to reach people who may not be as educated on subjects like this.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a well thought out campaign, I like that you would bring in humor to spreading the message and using a multifaceted and comprehensive team to drive the campaign and the campaign decisions.
